Box Score 2 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The Marymount University softball team opened up its spring break trip with a split in a pair of games on Sunday afternoon, with a win coming via an 11-3 drubbing of Blackburn College.
Game One
The Saints made quick work of the Beavers in their first game down south, as their offense ended the tilt in the sixth inning. MU outhit Blackburn, 12-6, en route to the Blue and White's fourth win of the campaign.
While Marymount's offense supplied the fireworks, Morgan Hunt went to work in the pitcher's circle. The junior threw all six innings and fanned six batters to earn her second win of the campaign.
Four batters registered multi-hit performances against the Beavers, headlined by Sara Emig. Emig went 3-for-3 at the plate with one RBI and one run. Hunt helped her own cause with a 2-for-3 performance at the dish. She tallied a team-high three RBI and scored a pair of runs. Elizabeth Corcoran and Shanyn Burch rounded out the Saints' offense with a 2-for-4 and 2-for-3 line, respectively. One of Burch's hits left the park for her first homer of the campaign.
Game Two
Marymount locked horns with DeSales University in its second game on Sunday and battled the Bulldogs into extra innings. Both sides held the other scoreless until the eighth frame, as Shanyn Burch kept the Bulldogs at bay until a last-ditch comeback sealed the contest. Burch threw 7.1 innings and didn't allow a hit until the third inning.
After a quiet start to the game, the Saints' bats came alive i the top of the eighth inning. Burch started the rally with a two-out triple to right field. With one runner on, Kaylynn Johnson dug in at the plate and launched a homer to left field to put the Blue and White ahead, 2-0. A single and a wild pitch moved Sara Emig into scoring position. The Bulldogs muffed a play in the infield that allowed Emig to come around and score.
Despite the Saints' heroics in the top of teh frame, DeSales answered with fireworks of its own in the bottom of the frame. A one-out rally resulted in a grand-slam for the Bulldogs, who took the contest, 4-3.
Johnson paced Marymount's offense with a 2-for-4 day at the plate with two RBI and one run. Burch finished 1-for-3 at the plate, while Emig went 1-for-5 with one run.
The Saints return to action this afternoon with a pair of games against North Carolina Wesleyan and King's College (Pa.). First pitch against the Bishops is scheduled 3:30 p.m.
