INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Marymount softball have learned their location for the NCAA Regionals this weekend, heading to McMinnville, Oregon to take on Linfield University in game one.
Marymount earned their second-straight Atlantic East Conference Championship to grab the automatic qualifier. They currently sport a 24-17 overall record.
SCOUTING THE REGION
- This is the second-straight season that Marymount heads to the NCAA Tournament, after playing last year at East Texas Baptist.
- Linfield University is the host of the Regional round, they went 37-6 overall on the season and earned the berth after winning the Northwest Conference Tournament.
- Transylvania University earned an at-large selection after going 35-11 overall on the season.
- The regional pod is rounded out by Pacific Lutheran University who earned an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament. They were Northwest Conference runners-up.
SCOUTING THE SAINTS
- Marymount won the Atlantic East Conference Tournament as the #1 seed, hosting at Barcroft Park. They took down Neumann in Game Six to keep the trophy in Arlington.
- The Saints are led in the circle by ace Bailey Demusz, a senior, who sports a 4.49 ERA across the year, striking out 100 opposing hitters on the dot in 116.1 innings pitched. In conference play, she had a perfect 8-0 record, while securing a 1.90 ERA.
- Kaylee Atkins leads marymount at the dish, hitting at a .462 clip with a 1.142 OPS. She drove in 38 RBI on the season with three home runs and 16 doubles.
- A pair of first-years were staples in the lineup for the Saints. Gracie Himmelman notched a 1.122 OPS while hitting .459, driving in 30 RBI this season. Valeria Gutierrez De Oliveira had a 1.016 OPS with a team-high 43 RBI. She powered six home runs this season and 10 doubles.
- Haley Greer, Samantha Richtol, Grace Gilbert, and Haylee Carpenter all added quality at-bats, each having an OPS .780 or higher.
- The Saints are led by captains Tara Corcoran, Demusz, and Atkins.
ABOUT THE CHAMPIONSHIP
- The NCAA Division III Softball Committee selected the 64 teams that will compete in the Division III softball championship.
- The regional round will be held May 14-16. Sixteen sites will host four teams at each regional site.
- The team advancing from each regional will compete in the super regional round May 21 and 22 hosted by eight institutions.
- The finals, hosted by the City of Salem and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, will be held May 28-June 3 at Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Virginia.
- All rounds will use a double-elimination format.
