Box Score 2 FREDERICK, Md. -- The Marymount University softball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader on the road to Hood College on Wednesday night.
Game One
The Saints couldn't generate consistent offense at the plate in the first game of the twinbill. MU ended the tilt with four hits, but the Blazers swatted eight hits en route to a 6-1 win.
Marymount struck first in the opening frame, as Kaylynn Johnson belted a double that scored Elizabeth Corcoran. Hood countered with two runs of its own in the bottom of the frame and plated four more in the second frame to jump ahead of the Saints.
Shanyn Burch entered the game in the pitcher's circle for the Saints in the third inning and shut out Hood for the remainder of the tilt. The Mechanicsville, Maryland native registered a pair of strikeouts and allowed just one hit. Marymount was unable to rally as the game wore on, however, as Hood took the opener.
Elizabeth Corcoran, Johnson, Sheila Kiernan, and Hailey Leamer all tallied hits for the Blue and White. Sara Emig and Jaclyn Burch each finished with one walk.
Game Two
Marymount found more success at the dish in the nightcap with seven hits compared to the Blazers four. Despite outhitting the home side, the Saints were unable to generate the runs they needed as they fell to Hood, 4-2.
The Blue and White struck first once again with two runs in the top of the second. With Leamer on second, Samantha Cinotti laced a single up the middle to score the first run of the tilt. After a double from Corcoran moved Cinotti into scoring position, Shanyn Burch swatted a single into left field to put Marymount up, 2-0.
Hood managed to plate a run in the bottom of the frame to cut into the Saints' edge. The Blazers tacked on three runs in the third inning to take the lead back from Marymount. Despite their best efforts, the Saints couldn't find the hits they needed the rest of the way as Hood held on for the win.
Cinotti led the way for the Saints' offense with two hits in four at-bats and one RBI. Corcoran, Shanyn Burch, Johnson, Emig, and Kiernan all tallied a hit for MU. Burch tossed six innings for the Saints.
Marymount returns to Atlantic East Conference play on Saturday, April 2, when the Saints battle Gwynedd-Mercy University on the road at 12:00 p.m.
