ARLINGTON, Va. -- The Marymount University softball team played its first pair of games at its home of Barcroft Park on Saturday afternoon and earned a split against Atlantic East Conference foe Cabrini University with an 8-0 shutout victory in the second game of the twinbill. 

Game One

The Saints battled the Cavaliers into extra innings in the first game of the twinbill but were unable to overcome a two-run eighth inning from Cabrini in a 4-3 decision. 

Cabrini took an early lead against the Blue and White with one run in the first inning. The Saints' Morgan Hunt held the Cavaliers scoreless for the next three innings, but Cabrini tacked on another run in the top of the fourth. 

MU halved the visitors' lead in the bottom of the fifth via a single from Jaclyn Burch, which plated Sara Emig. Hunt twirled another scoreless frame in the top of the sixth inning and the Saints responded with the tying run in the bottom of the frame. Elizabeth Corcoran started the inning off with a single and promptly swiped second to move into scoring position. After an error moved Corcoran to third, she came around to score on a wild pitch to knot the game at 2-2. 

After a scoreless seventh inning from both sides, Cabrini struck for a pair of runs in the top of the eighth inning to take a 4-2 lead. As the Saints looked to answer in the bottom half of the inning, Samantha Cinotti led off with a double to left-center and swiped third with no outs. Elizabeth Corcoran flew out to centerfield which allowed Cinotti to score. Shanyn Burch followed with a single, but the Saints couldn't extend the rally from there as Cabrini earned the win. 

Corcoran and Jaclyn Burch both finished 1-for-3 at the plate with one RBI each. Cinotti finished 1-for-4 with one stolen base. In the pitcher's circle, Hunt fanned four batters in 7.2 innings of work. 

Game Two

While the first contest between the burgeoning conference rivals was a tightly-contested affair, the Saints' bats came alive in the second tilt in a runaway 8-0 victory.

Six Saints tallied hits throughout the tilt, three of which posted multi-hit performances. Cinotti and Corcoran each finished 2-for-4 at teh plate, while Hailey Leamer went 2-for-3. Shanyn Burch and Nadya Soliman each posted a hit and two RBI as MU's leading run producers. Emig added one hit and one RBI to round out the offense. 

While the Blue and White bats put the game out of reach, Burch tossed a gem in the pitcher's circle. The sophomore allowed just two hits in a full six innings of work. Burch fanned four batters and issued just one walk to earn her third win of the season. 

Marymount opened the scoring in the second frame, as Emig laced an RBI double down the left-field line. Lamer followed with a single that plated Emig to put the Saints ahead, 2-0. The Blue and White tacked on three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

A miscue from the Cavaliers scored Cinotti, while Nadya Soliman registered a single that plated Kaylynn Johnson and Corcoran. MU's final runs of the tilt came in the sixth inning via Corcoran and Burch. Corcoran made it 6-0 with an RBI double before Burch laced a single up the middle that scored a pair to give the game its final scoreline. 

Marymount hits the road for a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 30, when the Saints battle Hood College at 3:00 p.m.
