Women's Lacrosse Raises Season Record to 8-1 After Win Over Notre Dame of Maryland

ARLINGTON, Va. – Marymount University women's lacrosse came out victorious against Notre Dame of Maryland University with a 22-9 win.

The Gators started the game strong and tallied the first two goals in less than two minutes but the Saints stepped up their game, the defense only allowed one more goal by the Gators in the first quarter while the Saints offense registered 10 goals. Senior Sarah Agrillo was responsible for three of those unassisted while junior Kaleigh Dunham added another three of her own, one unassisted and two assisted by freshman Taylor Chepren

The Saints continued to put themselves in a scoring position with 30 shots on goal compared to the Gators 14 shots on goal. The Saints picked up 26 ground balls and caused the Gators to make fourteen turnovers. The Blue and White added two goals in the second quarter and seven in the third quarter which gave the Saints a 19-8 advantage at the start of the fourth quarter. The Saints continued to dominate with three goals in the final quarter compared to the one goal by the Gators, which resulted in a 22-9 decision.

Dunham and Agrillo led the Saints in goals with six and five, respectively, while Chepren was essential for the Saints offense with six assists. Seniors Caitlyn Dunn and Dunham picked up the ground balls for the Saints, both with four, while freshman Ella Baker, senior Emily Peters and Agrillo each added three. Caitlyn Dunn and Peters led the Blue and White in caused turnovers, Dunn with four and Peters with three.

Senior Mariel Russ spent 54:42 in Marymount's goal and amassed five saves while freshman Hannah Smith stepped in for the final 5:18 of the game.

The Saints return to play on Saturday, March 26, where they will challenge Alvernia University in Pennsylvania at 1:00pm.
