Box Score 2 BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Marymount University softball team split a pair of contests on the road on Tuesday evening against Bridgewater College with an 8-3 victory in the first game of the twinbill.
Game One
The Saints struck early in the first game on Tuesday as they scored all of their runs across the first two innings. MU ended the tilt with 12 hits with four batters registering multi-hit performances.
Jacyln Burch and Hailey Leamer paced the Saints' offense with a pair of 2-for-4 performances. Burch tallied two RBI and scored one run, while Leamer tallied two RBI. Samantha Cinotti and Nadya Soliman each went 2-for-4 at the dish. Sara Emig and Sheila Kiernan supplied MU's final four runs with two RBI apiece.
Burch was responsible for the first run of the game, with an RBI single that scored Cinotti. Kiernan kept the rally going with two outs with a single into left field. Kiernan's hit allowed Burch and Elizabeth Corcoran to come around and score. Lemur capped the first-inning barrage with a two-RBI single.
Marymount rounded out its scoring in the top of the second frame. After Corcoran worked a walk to get on base, Shanyn Burch launched a double into left-center that scored Corcoran. AS the inning wore on, Emig registered a single that scored Nadya Soliman and Burch to give the Saints the lead for good.
Bridgewater scratched across runs in the third and fourth innings, but the Saints leaned on Morgan Hunt in the pitcher's circle to seal the win. Hunt allowed just three runs in a complete-game effort to earn her fifth win of the season.
Game Two
Marymount and Bridgewater engaged in a slugfest in the second game of the afternoon that ultimately went the Eagles' way, 9-8. The Saints swatted 13 hits, their second-highest total this season.
The Blue and White struck first with one run in the second inning via a double from Emig. MU followed up with three runs in the third frame. Shanyn Burch started the rally with a double to left-center. Soliman followed with a double of her own that scored Burch. Emig swatted another double to cap the barrage as Cinotti scored to make it 4-2.
MU tacked on another run in the top of the fourth inning to extend its lead. The Eagles responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame, however, to take the lead back from the Blue and White.
Leamer pushed the Saints back ahead in the fifth inning with an RBI single that scored Soliman. Marymount's offense continued to surge in the sixth frame, as Leamer and Corcoran each supplied one RBI to push the Saints ahead, 8-6.
Despite the late push, MU was unable to fend off the Eagles. The home side answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and used a sacrifice fly in extra innings to edge the Saints.
Kaylynn Johnson led the Saints at the dish with three hits in five plate appearances. She finished with one RBI and two runs. Cinotti went two-for-three with a team-high three runs, while Corcoran and Emig added two hits apiece.
The Saints return home for an Atlantic East Conference doubleheader on Saturday, March 26, when they host Cabrini University at 12:00 p.m.
