Softball Falls to Susquehanna and No. 2 Salisbury

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

SALISBURY, Md. -- The Marymount University softball team closed out the weekend at the Sea Gull Classic with a pair of tough matchups against Susquehanna University and host Salisbury University. The Saints battled but fell in both tilts.

Marymount vs. Susquehanna

The Blue and White Challenged the River Hawks for the second time in as many days to open the action on Sunday. A second-inning rally by Susuqeuhanna made the difference, as the River Hawks managed to pull away from the Saints in a 9-1 decision.

After Susquehanna took an early lead, the Saints battled back in the fourth inning. Nadya Soliman worked a one-out walk and moved into scoring position after a wild pitch. Sheila Kiernan followed with a walk of her own to put two runners on base.

Sarah Emig promptly laced a double into right-centerfield that scored Kiernan. MU was unable to keep the rally going, however, as Susquehanna's pitchers worked out of the Saints' threat.

Shanyn Burch and Kiernan added the Saints' other two hits, as Burch registered a double and Kiernan tallied a single. Burch's double pushed her season total to six.

Marymount vs. Salisbury

The Saints faced a stiff test against No. 2 nationally-ranked Salisbury in their second game of the day. Marymount hung tough with the Sea Gulls, but the hosts walked away with a 20-0 victory.

Marymount found success at the plate through Shanyn Burch and Jaclyn Burch. The duo registered one hit apiece against the Sea Gulls vaunted pitching staff. Shanyn Burch got the start in the pitcher's circle and recorded one strikeout.

On defense, Kaylynn Johnson tallied a team-high five putouts. Hailey Leamer finished with two putouts and three assists, while Elizabeth Corcoran finished with two putouts and two assists.

The Saints return to action on Tuesday, March 22, when they hit the road for a twin bill against Bridgewater College.
