VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- A big first quarter paved the way for an impressive win for Marymount University women's lacrosse on Saturday afternoon as the Saints dominated Virginia Wesleyan University, 21-5. 

Marymount started its goal barrage just under two minutes into the game as Riley Love buried the opener. Emily Peters scored back-to-back goals to open the floodgates, as Kaleigh Dunham, Taylor Young, and Taylor Chepren all found the back of the net through the first 15 minutes. 

With a commanding 10-1 lead, the Saints cruised over the final 45 minutes. The Blue and White ended the tilt with a 34-15 advantage in shots and a 26-21 edge in ground balls. MU's control of the game was further evidenced by their 25-for-26 mark on clears. 

Love paced the Saints with a five-point outing with three goals and two assists. Dunham finished with four points (3g-1a), while Young and Peters each added three tallies. Sarah Agrillo chipped in three points (2g-1a), while Erin Cannon and Chepren posted two goals apiece. Megan Edens and Arayla Garcia rounded out the Saints' multi-point performers with one goal and one assist apiece.

On defense, Caitlyn Dunn finished with game-high three caused turnovers. Dunn and goalkeeper Mariel Russ finished tied with a game-best five ground balls. Russ picked up the win in goal with four saves in 49:50 of action. First-year talent Hannah Smith closed out the game in goal with 1 save. 

Marymount remains on the road for its next contest on Wednesday, March 2, when it heads to the Keystone State to take on Arcadia University at 4:00 p.m.
