Dunham sets career-highs but Saints fall to Cavaliers

Box Score

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount University women's lacrosse team fell in Atlantic East Conference action for the first time this year on Wednesday afternoon, 21-15, against Cabrini University at Long Bridge Park.

Cabrini opened the game with five goals in the first seven minutes to take a 5-1 lead. The Saints began to battle back through the rest of the first half, beginning with back-to-back scores by sophomore Kaleigh Dunham and junior Emily Peters.

Dunham added two more goals in the half, including the final tally in a run of five unanswered by the Saints.

With 15:09 remaining, Peters notched a man-up score to begin the spurt. Junior Sarah Agrillo and seniors Eliana Cassel and Madison Davis continued the comeback, each scoring a goal in a two-minute span. Davis tied the score, 8-8 before Dunham capped the run to take a 9-8 lead with 6:41 to play.

The Cavaliers, however, netted the final two goals of the first half to take a 10-9 lead into the break. They would continue to find the back of the net to start the second half, rebuilding a 14-9 lead.

A trio of free-position scores helped the Saints keep within reach, as junior Taylor Young netted two and senior Shea Smith notched the other.

Goals from Davis and Dunham pulled MU back to within four, 18-14, but three-straight goals from Cabrini put the game away. Dunham tacked on her team-leading and career-high fifth goal before the end of regulation; she led the team with a career-high six points.

Young, Agrillo, Davis, and Peters all tallied a pair of goals in the game.

Junior Mariel Russ made eight saves in 60 minutes in goal.

Marymount will travel to Neumann University for its next game on Saturday, April 10; the game is set for 1 p.m.
