Saints close out strong to take down Marywood and advance to Atlantic East championship

Box Score

ARLINGTON, Va. – The No. 2-seeded Marymount University women's lacrosse team punched its ticket to the Atlantic East Conference championship game with a 16-8 victory over No. 3-seeded Marywood University in a conference tournament semifinal contest on Wednesday at Long Bridge Park.

The teams played to a 5-5 tied through the opening 20 minutes, but the Saints pulled away with a strong second half and an 11-3 scoring run to close the game.

Junior Sarah Agrillo tied her career-high with six goals while tacking on two assists, to lead the team with eight points. Classmate Emily Peters put away four scores, and sophomore Riley Love added a hat trick, as well.

The Saints' defense locked down the Pacer offense in the final 40 minutes of play, led by junior Caitlyn Dunn. Dunn tied career highs with four caused turnovers and six ground balls to lead the team in both.

Marywood took an early lead, 2-0, but two Agrillo goals evened the score. Goals from Agrillo, Peters, and Love helped force the 5-5 tie before the team put away the last three goals of the first half. Peters tallied two, while Agrillo notched one, as the Saints took an 8-5 lead into halftime.

Senior Eliana Cassel opened the second-half scoring before Agrillo and Peters pushed the lead to 11-5 to start the period.

Sophomore Kaleigh Dunham and Love, each, added a pair of goals in the second half, while Agrillo tallied her final score, as the Saints kept full control down the stretch.

Junior Mariel Russ played all 60 minutes in goal and made seven saves to earn the win.

Marymount will move on to the Atlantic East championship game at Cabrini University, the tournament's No. 1 seed, on Saturday, May 1. The opening draw is set for 1 p.m.
