Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount University women's lacrosse team improved to 2-0 in Atlantic East Conference competition on Saturday, with a 15-14 overtime victory against Marywood University at Long Bridge Park.
The Saints overcame a five-goal deficit in the first half and battled down the stretch to ultimately outlast the Pacers in the extra period. Marymount celebrated Senior Day before the game, for seniors Eliana Cassel, Madison Davis, Shea Smith, and Caroline Wolford.
Sophomore Riley Love led the way for the Saints with five goals, including two down the stretch run of the victory. Junior Emily Peters continued her strong start to the year with three goals.
Marywood opened the game on an 8-3 run, taking the five-goal lead with 11:15 to play in the first half. The Saints scored five of the final six goals in the frame to bring the halftime score to a 9-8 deficit. Love and Peters, each, netted two scores in the run before sophomore Kaleigh Dunham put home the final tally of the half with 29 seconds left.
Peters opened the second half with a goal less than three minutes in to tie the game. Davis followed to take the Saints' first lead of the game, 10-9.
The teams traded the lead twice more in the half, as Love scored three of the team's final four goals. Junior Taylor Young added a tally, as well.
Love scored two straight to give Marymount a 14-12 edge with 8:12 to play, but Marywood tied the game in the final five minutes to force the extra period.
With 1:05 to go in overtime, Young took advantage of a free-position opportunity to put home the game-winner.
Young finished with two goals in the contest, as did Davis and junior Sarah Agrillo.
Junior Mariel Russ earned the win in goal, playing 61:55 between the pipes and making four saves.
The Saints will hit the road for their next game, traveling to Gwynedd Mercy University on Wednesday, March 31 for an Atlantic East matchup. The game is set for 4 p.m.
