Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount University women's lacrosse team opened Atlantic East Conference play on Wednesday afternoon with a 17-3 victory over Immaculata University at Long Bridge Park.
The Saints took a 2-0 lead in the first five minutes of the game on goals from junior Emily Peters and sophomore Riley Love.
Immaculata responded with three goals over three minutes to flip the advantage and force an MU timeout.
After the Saints regrouped, they went on a 15-goal tear for the remainder of the game, while the defense shut out the Mighty Macs the rest of the way.
Peters got Marymount on the board again to tie the game with her second. Junior Sarah Agrillo followed at the 16:59 mark to take the lead for good, 4-3.
Peters netted a first-half hat trick, while Agrillo, Love, and senior Shea Smith all tallied two goals in the first half, as the Saints took a 10-3 lead into the break. Sophomore Megan Edens netted a free-position goal in the half, as well.
At halftime, the Saints led in shots, 18-10, ground balls, 15-13, and were successful on 12-of-14 clearing attempts. Marymount also converted on four-of-five free-position shots.
Marymount kept the pressure on with seven goals in the second half, led by another three from Peters. She finished the game with a team-high six goals, setting a new career-best. She added one assist to lead the team with seven points, also a career-high.
Sophomore Kaleigh Dunham tallied two scores in the half, while Smith added her third of the game and junior Taylor Young notched her first.
Love and Agrillo, each, finished the game with four points on two goals and two assists, tying for second on the team.
Junior Mariel Russ played all 60 minutes in goal, earning the win and making seven saves.
Marymount will play host to Marywood University on Saturday, March 27 for its next contest. The Saints will celebrate Senior Day before the game, which is set for 3 p.m.
