Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount University men's basketball team notched its second-straight win on Sunday afternoon with a 67-55 victory over Eastern Mennonite University at the Converse Family Fieldhouse.
Three Saints scored in double-figures to lead the team, with senior Xavier Reaves pacing the team with 16 points. Classmate Miles Brown set a career-high with 14 points, while sophomore Wyatt Hockenberry chipped in with 10.
In a back-and-forth first half, Marymount used two separate 7-0 runs to stay a step ahead of the Royals. The first half saw five ties, and with the score knotted 12-12, two layups from Brown and a three from junior Nick Rivas powered the first spurt for a 19-12 edge.
After EMU fought back to tie the score, 21-21, Reaves put away five-straight points to lead the second run and take a 28-21 lead.
Marymount ended the first half with a 28-26 advantage, led by nine points from Reaves and seven from Brown. The Saints held a 16-10 edge in points in the paint, as well.
The Saints pushed their lead to as many as nine points to start the second half on a layup by Brown, 39-30, but the Royals came storming back with a 14-2 run to take a three-point lead.
The teams traded four lead changes over the next few minutes, but the Saints would respond with a 10-2 run after a 46-46 tie to rebuild their lead. Senior Zamir Clifton led the surge with four points before sophomore Montell Cooper capped the run with a layup.
Marymount closed out strong from there to take the win, hitting four free throws in the final 20 seconds.
Reaves and Clifton, each, pulled down seven rebounds to lead the team, while Reaves paced the defense with four steals.
Marymount will next travel to Catholic University of America on Wednesday, December 1. The game is set for 7 p.m.
