GLASSBORO, N.J. -- The Marymount University men's basketball team lit up the scoreboard against Rowan University on Wednesday night, but the Saints fell in a shootout, 119-108.

It was an offensive showcase from both sides inside of Rowan's Esbjornson Gymnasium. The contest featured 12 lead changes, as MU went blow-for-blow with the Profs. The Saints outshot Rowan from the floor with a 49.4% (40-for-81) field-goal percentage. Rowan separated itself at the free-throw line, however, as the home side went 28-for-39 (71.8%) at the charity stripe. The Profs demonstrated a quicks-trike approach that flustered the Saints throughout the contest, as Rowan finished with 46 fastbreak points.

Four Saints finished in double figures, highlighted by Xavier Reaves. The senior set a new career-high with 36 points on a 62.5% (15-for-24) mark from the floor. On top of his point total, Reaves finished with a double-double with 13 rebounds, seven steals, and three assists. Sophomore Wyatt Hockenberry checked in next on the scoresheet for MU with 19 points.

Marcus Stubbs and Montell Cooper rounded out the Saints' double-digit scorers with 16 and 15 points, respectively. Cooper added six assists and seven boards, while Stubbs chipped in three rebounds.

While Marymount outshot Rowan 54.8% to 51.1% from the floor in the first half, the Profs managed slightly more success from the 3-point arc, which resulted in a 66-62 advantage. The Saints came racing out of the gates to open the second half with a 9-0 run to take a 71-66 lead. Reaves and Cooper led the barrage with five and four points, respectively. 

The Blue and White kept their foot on the gas over the next three minutes and grew their lead to 80-72. Despite the eight-point lead, Rowan battled back and snuck back ahead of the Saints with a little over 10 minutes on the clock after a basket from Arian Azemi. Marymount stuck close, as Reaves pulled MU back within four with a pair of free throws at 93-89.

That was as close as MU got, however, as the Profs nailed their free throws down the stretch to seal the contest's final scoreline.

Marymount defends its home court for the first time this season in its next tilt on Saturday, November 20, when the Saints host Ramapo College in the opening round of the Pablo-Coto Tip-Off Tournament. The contest is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
