Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. - The Marymount University women's lacrosse team stormed to a 17-2 throttling on Wednesday evening at Long Bridge Park, toppling Hood College behind a career-high six-point effort from sophomore Emily Peters.
Peters is off to a hot start to the season, opening the year with a hat trick of goals against Virginia Wesleyan. On Wednesday, she continued her offensive dominance with five goals and an assist against the Blazers to help the Saints put away their opponent early.
The first half was all MU, outscoring the Blazers, 12-0, through the first 30 minutes. Peters registered five of her six points in the first half, while freshman Kaleigh Dunham, who finished with a career-high four goals, solidified a hat trick within an eight-minute gap of time.
Peters and Dunham were joined in the scoring spree with sophomores Sarah Agrillo (2) and Taylor Young, junior Shea Smith, and freshman Riley Love.
Defensively, the Saints only gave up seven shots, and the six that were on target, senior goalkeeper Meagan Gagnon pulled in.
The scoring continued at the beginning of the second half with Peters tacking on her sixth and final point with an unassisted finish. Young and Dunham followed with three more goals combined to push the advantage to 16-0 before the Blazers scored their first of two goals with 4:35 remaining in the game.
Sophomore Liza Ervin put the final touch on the game with 1:14 left, catching a pass from senior captain Madison Davis.
Gagnon, now 2-0 in the net, tended for 58:12 and made eight saves on nine shots seen. Gagnon also joined Peters with a tied game-high three caused turnovers, while Peters registered a game-high four ground balls.
The Saints hit the road for the first time this season on Saturday, February 29, traveling to Bridgewater (Va.) College. Start time is set for 1 p.m.
