Box Score IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Marymount University men's basketball team traveled to Immaculata University on Saturday afternoon, coming away with a 78-68 victory for its fourth-straight Atlantic East Conference win.
Sophomore Xavier Reaves put up five-quick points on a three-pointer and a layup to give the Saints a 5-3 lead in the first 3:08 of play; it was a lead that the Saints would not give up for the rest of the first half.
Led by six points from senior Ibrahim Kamara, the team continued to roll to a 21-9 advantage by the 11:32 mark of the half.
Junior Steve Etienne continued the Saints' offensive success by repeatedly finding points in the paint. He hit two-straight layups to keep the team's lead in double-digits, 25-12, before adding two more layups and a dunk, as the team held a 38-23 advantage with 3:29 to play.
The Mighty Macs looked to get back into the game with the final eight points of the half, but Marymount took a 38-31 lead into the break. Etienne led the way with 14 points and four steals at halftime.
Immaculata continued to battle back and keep the second half closer than the first. Etienne continued to find space inside, hitting three more layups to reach 20 points by the 13:57 mark of the second and keep the Saints ahead, 46-42.
With a 19-13 run, the Might Macs took their first lead since their first basket of the game, 61-59, with 6:45 to play, but the Saints again found their rhythm to close out on a 19-7 advantage.
Kamara re-tied the score with a layup, sparking nine-straight points for Marymount. He added a jumper to take a 68-61 lead, and the Saints kept control from there.
Senior Taiga Walker scored a layup and two free throws down the stretch, while classmate LaDarius McCord and Etienne, each, hit a pair of foul shots, as well, to secure the win.
Etienne finished with a game-high 28 points, while also leading the team with eight rebounds and six steals. Kamara, also, hit double-figures with 15 points.
Marymount will return home to the Converse Family Fieldhouse to close out the regular season on Saturday, February 22, playing host to Marywood University; the opening tip is set for 3 p.m.
