Box Score YORK, Pa. - The Marymount University men's basketball team fell in the final day of the York College Classic on Sunday evening, falling to the host Spartans, 85-62.
The Saints (7-6) built up an early advantage in the game after the Spartans open the game with the first two points. Seniors Josh Giardina and Ibrahim Kamara followed with seven-straight points behind a three-pointer and jumper by Giardina and a layup by Kamara to take a 7-2 lead.
A first half of runs, York answered back to grab a lead of its own by the 11:17 mark, 16-9. However, again, Marymount responded with 12-straight points to go back ahead. In the stretch, Kamara scored eight of the points while senior Taiga Walker and junior Steve Etienne tacked on two each.
The Saints maintained the lead for several minutes, but the Spartans chipped away at the deficit until roughly a minute left in the half when an and-one jumper put YCP in the lead, 34-31, for the rest of the game.
At the half, MU trailed by seven with Etienne and Kamara both in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The second half saw the Spartans remain hot offensively, shooting 60 percent from the floor over the 20-minute span and close out for the 85-62 decision.
Etienne led the Saints with 16 points, while Kamara chipped in 14. Etienne, defensively, added a team-high five steals, and senior LaDarius McCord came off the bench for four steals, five rebounds and nine points.
The rest of the season is league play for the Saints, opening Atlantic East Conference play with Wesley College on Wednesday, January 8. Start time is set for 8 p.m.
