Box Score SCRANTON, Pa. - The Marymount University men's basketball team had five different Saints score in double figures, as it earned a 90-84 victory over Marywood University to round out the first half of Atlantic East Conference play.
Consistency was key for the Saints, shooting 51.6 percent from the floor through 40 minutes of well-rounded basketball. Sophomore Xavier Reaves paced the squad with a team-high 19 points, while senior Taiga Walker added 18 points.
But, it was the control of the glass that proved the difference in the game, as the Saints outrebounded the Pacers, 40-20, including 18 on the offensive glass. Of the 40 rebounds, a game-high 14 came from junior Steve Etienne to go along with 14 points, a game-high three blocks, five assists, and two steals.
Although the Pacers remained in striking distance throughout the whole game, with their largest deficit to the Saints being 11, Marymount never trailed. They opened the game with the first six points off of two baskets by Reaves and a jumper from senior LaDarius McCord to start out his 14-point day.
By the half, the Saints carried a 39-33 advantage into the locker room, led by 13 points from Reaves.
The second half was a tight matchup with a lot of scoring, as the two teams each dropped in 51 points. The Pacers continued to remain in arms reach of the Saints, eventually drawing the score even at the 15:23 mark. However, Marymount answered with eight-straight points to put it back out ahead for the rest of the game.
In the stretch, Reaves had a free throw, while senior Ibrahim Kamara had two baskets and Walker added a three pointer. Kamara finished the day with 10 points off the bench, including a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.
The Saints head home for a week off from competition before starting up the second half of league play on Saturday, February 1. They'll host Wesley College on Alumni day with tipoff set for 5 p.m.
