Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. - The Marymount University men's basketball team earned its second-straight Atlantic East Conference victory on Wednesday night, topping Neumann University, 73-65, in the Converse Family Fieldhouse.
A well-rounded first half for the Saints got the wheels turning in the game, carrying an 11-point advantage into the half. Through the first 12 minutes, it remained tight, but a 15-2 stretch kicked off by a three by senior LaDarius McCord got MU out ahead for the rest of the contest.
McCord's three was followed by more senior action, with Taiga Walker knocking two free throws and a steal by sophomore Xavier Reaves was capitalized by a dunk by Ibrahim Kamara, drawing a timeout by the Knights. Kamara had more contributions in the stretch, landing a jumper and a three-pointer before Walker hit a jumper of his own to put the Saints up 31-16.
Kicking off the second half with a 34-23 lead, Marymount held onto a double-digit advantage until 10 minutes left in the game when Neumann started to mount a comeback following five-straight points from Waheem Lowman. However, the run was silenced by a long ball from senior Scott Collier to put the Saints back out ahead by 10.
Down the stretch, the Knights got as close as six points with a last-second layup, but two more free throws by Walker sealed up the game at 73-65.
Kamara led all Saint scorers with 16 points, while Walker and McCord chipped in 14 and 12, respectively. Junior Steve Etienne put together a loaded stat line with a game-high nine rebounds, game-high four assists, game-high two blocks, seven points, and a steal.
The Saints will look to stay hot on Saturday, January 18, traveling to Gwynedd Mercy University for another league matchup. The Griffins currently sit 2-0 in the Atlantic East with a victory over Cabrini Wednesday night, a squad the Saints just defeated on this past Saturday. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m.
