Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Marymount women's lacrosse senior Kellen Cannon scored a team-high three goals while junior Holly Reik totaled 14 saves, but a five-goal run to start the second half carried Christopher Newport to a 15-8 CAC victory Saturday at Captains Turf Field.
After starting the season with back-to-back road wins, the Saints (8-5, 2-2 CAC) have now lost three-straight.
Cannon gave Marymount the early lead after scoring the game's first goal less than five minutes in, but the Captains (7-6, 3-1 CAC) scored the next six over a span of 6:31 to take a 6-1 lead with 17:37 remaining in the first half.
CNU started the scoring with two goals just 10 seconds apart at 24:08 and 23:58.
Cannon and junior Bridgette Stacom scored on back-to-back free position shots to cut the Captains lead in half, 6-3 with 6:19 left, but CNU answered with two of their own goals to push the lead back to five.
Junior Jessica Crew, who ranks second in school history with 140 career goals, scored the first of her two on Saturday with 1:22 to play in the opening half as the Saints trailed 8-4 at the half.
However, much like their six-goal run at the start of the first half, the Captains opened the second with a five-goal spurt to take their largest lead of the game at nine, 13-4, with 20:54 remaining.
Despite the deficit, Marymount continued to push forward, scoring four of the game's final six goals, getting one each from Cannon, Crew, senior Abby Wescott and sophomore Madison Davis.
With a hat trick, Cannon posted her sixth game of the season and the 12th of her three-year career with at least three goals.
Meanwhile, Wescott extended her point scoring streak to 33 games while Stacom pushed hers to 27.
Junior Holly Reik totaled 14 saves for the fourth time this season, one shy of her career-high of 15 which she tied against Susquehanna earlier this year.
With one caused turnover, senior Liah Agouras moved into third place on the program's career list with 83, tying her with Cecilia Pasquale.
The Saints return home to host Wesley on Wednesday in their home finale beginning at 5 p.m.
