Reik Eclipses 400 Career Saves, Women's Lacrosse Overcomes Ospreys

Box Score

ARLINGTON, Va. – In a rematch of the 2017 ECAC semifinals, the Marymount women's lacrosse team kept its win streak alive against Stockton University, using three-straight goals in the late part of the second half to overcome the Ospreys, 9-7, on a cold Tuesday afternoon at Long Bridge Park.

It was a tight matchup for the full 60 minutes with four different times in the game that the score was even, including a 3-3 knot at the half. In the first half, Marymount held a slight edge in shots, 10-9, with seniors Kellen Cannon and Abby Wescott scoring the three unassisted finishes for the Saints. Wescott opened the scoring for MU, while Cannon put away the other two.

Through the first eight minutes in the second half, the teams traded several goals to put the score even at 5-5 before the Ospreys notched another to take their only lead of the game with 11:15 remaining.

This ignited a fire in the Saints, hitting their largest stretch of goals in the game with three straight in a three-minute span. Wescott lined a pass over the keeper's stick to the right post where sophomore Madison Davis was located for the quick stick finish to start up the run.

A minute and a half later, Wescott went solo for the second time in the game to put MU back ahead for the final time, while junior Bridgette Stacom crafted a free-position goal to put the Saints ahead, 8-6.

Stockton worked a comeback, cutting the deficit to one with 6:21 remaining, but Wescott separated the gap back to two with her hat-trick finish with less than five minutes remaining.

The closing minutes relied heavily on the Saint defense that caused nine turnovers for the game. Leading the way was senior Liah Agouras with a game-high four caused turnovers, while junior Alex Delgado added two.

In the cage, junior Holly Reik earned her sixth win of the season, making 10 saves in her 60 minutes of work. With her fifth save of the game, she eclipsed 400 for her career.

The women remain at home and get back into Capital Athletic Conference play for the rest of the regular season, hosting Frostburg State University on Saturday, March 31. Prior the game, the Saints will honor the senior class of Wescott, Cannon and Agouras. Start time is set for 1 p.m., at Long Bridge Park.
