Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Marymount women's lacrosse team fell on the road Saturday afternoon to an undefeated Bridgewater (Va.) squad, 18-9, moving the Saints to 6-2 for the season.
After trading goals to open the game, the Eagles (5-0) hit a hot streak of five-straight goals to take a 6-1 lead that would hold for the rest of the game.
However, Marymount didn't go away without a fight, outscoring Bridgewater for the final 11:20 of the first half, 5-2, to get back within two by the half. For the first half, four different Saints registered goals, led by two apiece by senior Kellen Cannon and junior Kelly Campbell. Juniors Bridgette Stacom and Jessica Crew scored the remaining two goals.
Bridgewater opened the second half with scoring early and often, pushing its lead back out to five with three-straight on the restart. Junior Gabby Albig found Crew for her second goal of the day to slow the run, but the Eagles fired back with seven more of their own to seal up the game.
The Saints scored two more in the closing four minutes, as freshman Josephine Bennett connected on a free-position shot and Albig went unassisted with just one second remaining.
Junior Holly Reik tended for 54:59 of the 60 minutes between the pipes, making eight saves. On the offensive end, Cannon led the way with three points on two goals and an assists, while collecting six draw controls, forcing two turnovers and scooping two ground balls.
The women remain on the road for another non-conference matchup on Wednesday, March 21, taking on Shenandoah at 4 p.m.
