Crew Registers 100th Career Goal in Season-Opening Win Over Southern Virginia

Box Score

ARLINGTON, Va. - Juniors Bridgette Stacom and Jessica Crew combined for nine goals and 10 points, as the Marymount women's lacrosse team opened the 2018 season with a 20-4 victory over Southern Virginia in a CAC contest on Wednesday evening at Long Bridge Park.

The Saints (1-0), the 2017 ECAC Division III champions, have won four-straight dating back to last season.

Stacom and junior Kelly Campbell opened the game with back-to-back goals in the first six minutes before Hannah King answered with the first of her three goals for the Knights to cut Marymount's lead in half.

However, the Saints scored the next 14-straight to take a commanding 16-1 lead with 20:03 left in the second half following Stacom's fourth of the game. Stacom and Crew combined for five of Marymount's seven second-half goals as the team expanded on its 13-1 halftime lead.

Six of the Saints 13 first-half tallies came off free-position shots as they were 6-for-11. They finished the game 8-for-15.

Stacom set a new career high with five goals while tying her career best in points with five. Meanwhile, Crew finished with four goals, including the 100th of her career with 11:43 remaining in the first half. In 39 career games, all starts, she has totaled 103 goals and 22 assists for 125 points.

Stacom and Crew were two of three players to register a hat trick for Marymount as sophomore Eliana Cassel totaled the first of her career with three goals. Senior Abby Wescott, the program's all-time leading scorer, finished with two goals and two assists to raiser her school record to 233 points.

Not to be overlooked is the first career point for junior Gabby Albig who missed last two seasons due to injury. With 26:37 left in the second half, Albig found senior Kellen Cannon for the finish to put the Saints in front, 15-1.

Stacom also added seven draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers while freshman Caroline Wolford had a strong collegiate debut with four caused turnovers and three ground balls. Junior Holly Reik made the start in goal for the Saints and made two saves before sophomore Meagan Gagnon played the final 30 minutes.

Marymount outshot the Knights 37-8 while forcing 23 turnovers and holding them to just 6-of-16 on clears.

The Saints return to action on Saturday when they welcome Widener to Long Bridge Park at 2 p.m.
