Box Score BUENA VISTA, Va. – Behind multiple-scoring games by six different Saints, the Marymount (Va.) University women's lacrosse team rolled to its first Capital Athletic Conference victory on Wednesday afternoon, cruising past Southern Virginia University, 19-4.
Leading the way for the Saints was sophomore Jessica Crew with another five-goal game while junior Abby Wescott put away an eight-point day off four goals and four assists. Sophomore Bridgette Stacom posted a hat trick of goals and junior Kellen Cannon and freshmen Eliana Cassel and Madison Davis chipped in two finishes apiece. Senior Natalie Tinkham, who had a tied game-high with Cannon in draw controls, added a goal as well.
Marymount put away the first goal of the game off the stick of Cassel on a free-position attempt, but the Knights answered several minutes later. That's as close as SVU would get to the lead, however, as the Saints went on their first run not long after to separate themselves for the remainder of the game.
The first stretch was four-straight goals before another seven-unanswered finishes sent MU into the half with a 13-3 advantage.
The final 30 minutes continued with six more goals, moving the stretch from the first half to a total of 13-straight goals, while the defense didn't allow but one goal by the Knights through the second half.
Wescott's eight-point day leaves her just 11 points shy of taking over the program record for career points with four game remaining in the regular season.
Sophomore Holly Reik earned the win in the with four saves in her 30 minutes of play, while freshman Meagan Gagnon tended for the whole second half.
The Saints return home on Saturday, April 1 for another CAC tilt, taking on No. 7 York College of Pennsylvania at Long Bridge Park. First draw is slated for 1 p.m.
