Box Score ARLINGTON, Va.—The Marymount (Va.) University men's basketball team dropped a close battle in a Capital Athletic Conference matchup against York College of Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon, 62-61.
The final five minutes of regulation proved to be a tough battle between both squads. Freshman Ibrahim Kamara knocked down two free throws to give the Saints a 61-52 lead, heading into the final five minutes of play. The Spartans quickly answered with a bucket of their own to cut the deficit.
At just under two minutes to play, Marymount maintained a slight lead, 61-59. Both squads played intensive defense, keeping both teams to one-shot possessions over the next minute and a half. York College knocked down a layup and drew the foul to piece together a three-point play, and took a 62-61 lead with six seconds remaining.
Both teams took a timeout to discuss strategy, before senior Michael Anderson drove the lane and drew contact to garner two shots at the free-throw line. Anderson headed to the line with just over a second left in regulation, but the senior was unable to convert and sophomore Brandon Rogers scooped up the rebound and fired off a shot that banked in. Unfortunately, Rogers' attempt didn't get off in time to count, as the Saints fell short, 62-61.
Anderson paced the Saints on the offensive end, bolstering 12 points, and junior Dimitri Rucker added nine points and nine rebounds.
The men will host the University of Mary Washington on Wednesday, February 15 for their next matchup. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m., in the Verizon Sports Arena.
