Rogers Sparks Huge Second Half, Saints Pull Away From Seahawks

Box Score

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - Marymount men's basketball junior Brandon Rogers scored a career-high 24 points, including 18 in the second half as the Saints rallied from an 11-point deficit to post a 75-66 victory in a CAC contest Saturday at O'Brien ARC Arena.

Marymount (3-3, 2-0 CAC) evened its record with its third-straight win while extending its CAC win streak to four.

Rogers eclipsed his previous career high of 17 that was set the last time he faced the Seahawks on Feb. 21, 2017. He finished with a career-high five three-pointers and was 7-of-8 from the free throw line.

The Seahawks (1-5, 0-2 CAC) jumped out to a 20-8 lead in the first 5:13 before the Saints trimmed the deficit to five, 24-19, after back-to-back three-pointers by Rogers and sophomore Josh Giardina.

However, St. Mary's held Marymount without a field goal for the final 3:08 while finishing the half on a 6-0 run to take an 11-point halftime lead, 39-28.

Led by seven points from Rogers, the Saints, who were hampered by 12 first-half turnovers, began the second half with a 13-1 run. They held the Seahawks without a field goal for the first 4:41 and took their first lead, 41-40, on a pair of Rogers free throws with 15:25 to play.

With the game tied at 45-45, Marymount used a 14-5 run to take a nine-point lead with 5:52 remaining following five consecutive points by sophomore Taiga Walker. The Saints stretched their lead to as many as 10, 62-52, on a three-pointer by freshman Kiran Durant.

Marymount held a 31-18 advantage in rebounds in the second half and limited St. Mary's to just 30.8 percent shooting from the floor while drawing 18 fouls and forcing 11 turnovers.

The Saints' starters accounted for 40 second-half points while sophomore Ibrahim Kamara added the other seven off the bench. Senior Dimitri Rucker had six points and nine rebounds in the second half and finished the game with nine points and a career-high 13 rebounds.

Walker totaled 12 points while Durant and Kamara each had 10.

Marymount returns to action on Wednesday when the team travels to Salisbury for a CAC contest with the Sea Gulls beginning at 7:30 p.m.
