Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. – A last-second three-pointer by junior Brandon Rogers and a career night by sophomore Taiga Walker boosted the Marymount men's basketball team to a thrilling victory over Bridgewater College on Sunday evening, 57-55.
Walker, who posted career highs in points and assists for the game with a game-high 13 and four, respectively, sent out the helper with one second remaining on the clock that Rogers pulled from deep. Trailing by one, Rogers' three-point attempt left the Eagles' gymnasium silent when it splashed through to put the Saints ahead for the final time for the winning decision.
Rogers, finishing with 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds, led the squad for the night in minutes, playing 38 for the game.
It was a close game throughout with 10 ties and 17 lead changes, but Marymount posted a steady 43.1 shooting percentage to keep the pace. However, the differential was on the glass, as the Saints out-rebounded the Eagles, 45-29, including 15 offensive boards.
Walker was matched on points with senior Dimitri Rucker, who commanded the paint the game. Rucker went 6-for-7 through his 22 minutes of play, while pulling down six rebounds.
Senior Alex Danko and sophomore Josh Giardina chipped in for seven points apiece, while Danko added six rebounds and a team-high three steals.
The Saints return home to open up Capital Athletic Conference play on Wednesday night, hosting Southern Virginia University in the Verizon Sports Arena. Taking the backend of a conference basketball doubleheader, the men will tipoff at 8 p.m.
