Box Score BUENA VISTA, Va. – Sophomore Abby Wescott continues to move up the program record list, leading the Marymount (Va.) University women's lacrosse team with seven points on Saturday afternoon in route to a blistering 18-5 victory over Southern Virginia University in Capital Athletic Conference play.
With her seven points for the day, she joins just 12 other Saints in program history with over 100 points in their career. Additionally, with the game-high five goals in the contest, she moves her career total to 50.
Wescott and the Saints jumped on the Knights early on, rolling up a 6-0 advantage in the first 10 minutes before SVU found the back of the net. All six goals were unassisted in the stretch, seeing Wescott and senior Stephanie Keane score two apiece, and freshman Kelly Campbell and junior Natalie Tinkham add one each.
Following a free-position finish by the Knights to get on the board at the 18:25 mark of the first half, the Saints went back to work on the offensive end, tacking on six more goals in under four minutes. In that run, Wescott again added two along with Tinkham and junior Michelle Casteel, while Wescott and senior Sadaf Najafzadeh sent out an assist on two finishes.
Southern Virginia cut the run with its second goal, but the Saints tacked on one more before the break on a Najafzadeh finish, the first of her three-year career with the blue and white. The senior attacker wouldn't stop there, making the game a career-high in points when she found the back of the net again midway through the second half to finish the game with three points off two goals and an assist.
Najafzadeh's second-half goal was just one of five by the Saints, as Keane, Tinkham, Wescott, and freshman Jessica Crew all added one each throughout the 30-minute stretch.
Freshman Holly Reik tended the net for the full 60 minutes, earning her eighth win of the season in a two-save game.
The women return to the turf on Wednesday, April 6, as they travel to Delaware for a league matchup with Wesley College. First draw is set for 7 p.m.
