Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, Va.— The Marymount (Va.) University men's basketball team fell in Capital Athletic Conference play for the first time this season, dropping a 64-52 road tilt to the University of Mary Washington on Saturday afternoon.
Both squads battled from the tipoff, trading points until the Saints saw their first lead following a shot from beyond the arc by senior Michael Anderson, 12-10. Marymount maintained an advantage through the midway point of the first half following a layup by sophomore Logan Cook, 17-15.
The blue and white extended its lead, 19-15, after freshman LaDarius McCord notched a steal and followed up with a quick bucket underneath. Mary Washington answered with a 6-0 run to take a 21-19 lead, close to the six-minute mark.
In the final five minutes of the half, the Eagles led by as much as nine before the Saints cut the deficit to five before heading to the locker rooms trailing, 35-30.
Freshman Ibrahim Kamara and Anderson led the way for the Saints with nine and eight points, respectively, each knocking down a shot from beyond the arc.
The Saints opened the second half with a quick bucket underneath from Anderson to get within three of the Eagles, 35-32. Marymount continued to push and tied the game at 41 all following another layup by Anderson.
Both squads remained within two points of one another until the Eagles knocked down back-to-back three pointers to pull ahead by six, 49-43. After the Eagles pulled ahead, the game became a defensive stalemate seeing neither team score for the next six minutes.
The Saints were unable to overcome the deficit in the final seven minutes of regulation, before falling in CAC action, 64-52.
Anderson paced the Saints after registering 18 points followed by Kamara with 11. Sophomore Brandon Rogers seized three steals on the defensive end.
The men will be back in action on Monday, December 19, hosting McDaniel College. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
