Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. – Returning home after a three-game road series, the Marymount (Va.) University women's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to Salisbury University in a Capital Athletic Conference showdown at Long Bridge Park.
The Sea Gulls grabbed a quick lead in the matchup, notching their first goal 13 seconds in, before adding another by the 17th minute to take a 2-0 advantage. The Saints looked to respond, seeing a great opportunity in the 27th minute by senior Kirsten Campbell. With some room inside the 18-yard box, Campbell blasted a left-footed shot that just soared high over the crossbar.
By the 29th minute, MU earned another great opportunity on the offensive end after a Salisbury foul gave the Saints a free-kick attempt in the middle of the field just outside the box. Freshman Courtney Stephens stepped up for the kick, but again the hard-hit shot made its way over the crossbar, as the score held at 2-0 at the break.
Junior Sydney Schultz took over in the net for the second half, turning away three Sea Gull shots in the first eight minutes of the restart. Schultz would pull in six total Salisbury opportunities through a 30-minute stretch before the Sea Gulls found the back of the net again in the 75th minute.
In the final minute of play, Salisbury added its final goal to take the 4-0 decision.
Schultz finished her second half of play with eight saves, just the second time this season the junior reached that amount.
The women will remain at home for their next match, as they host Penn State University-Harrisburg on Saturday, October 15 for senior day. First touch is set for 1 p.m., at Long Bridge Park.
