Late run by Saints falls short on road to Wesley

Box Score

DOVER, Del. – The Marymount (Va.) University men's basketball team kicked off the second half of Capital Athletic Conference play on Wednesday night, falling short on the road to Wesley College, 89-80.

Senior Rick Narcisse matched his career high in points that he set earlier in the season with a game-high 21 for the night, as four Saints notched double figures in scoring. Senior Danny Ferry added 14 points, while senior Colin Burkhart and sophomore D'Ondre Stockman chipped in for 12 apiece.

The game opened with a strong defensive showing by the Saints, forcing the first turnover of 11 for the Wolverines on the night. It transitioned with a three pointer by Stockman off a feed from Narcisse.

Marymount held onto the lead for several minutes following a Ferry layup and a finish inside by junior Pat Dumais to gain a 7-5 advantage, but the Wolverines started to heat up. Wesley followed up with seven-straight points to take over the lead for the rest of the contest.

It wouldn't come without a battle though, as the Saints remained within striking distance, only allowing the spread to reach seven through the rest of the first half.

Wesley worked up to a 10-point advantage in the opening minutes of the second half, but Marymount chipped away at it to eventually get within one with 6:24 remaining in the contest. Narcisse heated up in the second half, dropping in 17 of his 21, including the free throw to draw the deficit to one, 63-62.

The late run would come up short however, as the Wolverines hit back-to-back three pointers and made their trips to the charity stripe count on 11-for-19 free-throw shooting in the closing four minutes.

Marymount shot 54.5 percent from the floor for the night, including seven three pointers.

The men are back in action on Saturday, January 30, as they return home for a conference matchup with Frostburg State University. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m., in the Verizon Sports Arena.
