Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount (Va.) University men's basketball squad opened up the New Year dominating Wesley College in Capital Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Wolverines, 85-65, to clench its first win in conference play and improve to 4-7 on the season.
The Saints took an early lead in the first half and maintained it for the remainder of the game. Senior Rick Narcisse led the squad with a game- and career-high 21 points after going 8-for-9 from the field. Narcisse racked up seven points in the first three minutes of the game to help the Saints to a 12-2 advantage over the Wolverines.
Senior Danny Ferry also added a three in those first three minutes before Wesley got on the scoreboard. As the half continued, Marymount's offense continued to build with four different Saints hitting at least one three and going 8-8 from the line. Narcisse and Ferry combined for 20 of the Saints' 42 first-half points, to head to the locker room with a 42-20 advantage.
MU stayed hot on the offensive end with two quick free throws from Narcisse to start the second half. The Saints continued on an 8-0 run to open up the half off buckets from Narcisse, Ferry and sophomore Dimitri Rucker. Marymount eventually opened the spread to 30 points, its biggest advantage of the day.
The Wolverines tried to make a run late in the second half but only managed to cut the deficit to 17.
Freshman Tyler Beale and sophomore D'Ondre Stockman quickly answered with back-to-back layups to put the Saints back up by 21. The Saints finished the game with another layup from Beale, while sophomore Matt Kelly went 1-for-2 at the line.
Narcisse finished the half with 10 points followed by Beale who racked up eight. As a team, the Saints shot an impressive 58.3 percent from the field and 75 percent from three point range in the second half.
For the game, the Saints shot 54.7 percent from the field (29-for-53) and 69.0 percent from three-point range (7-for-11). In addition to Narcisse's 21 points for the afternoon, Ferry added 15 points while Beale added a career-high 14 points off the bench. Ferry and Beale combined for 14 of the Saints 39 rebounds on the afternoon.
The men will continue league play on Wednesday, January 6 at Frostburg State University. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m.
