Box Score ARLINGTON, Va—The Marymount (Va.) University women's soccer hosted top-seeded Christopher Newport University on Wednesday night, falling to a 6-0 decision in a rainy match at Long Bridge Park. Junior April Westmark set a career high in the net with 14 saves.
Westmark kept the Captains scoreless with three saves early on, until Christopher Newport's Victoria Perry managed to get one by. Marymount's defense kept the Captains out of the net until their second goal of the first half would come with 12:41 remaining on the clock. The Captains third goal came with under a minute left in the half. Westmark finished the half with an impressive 10 saves. Junior Chloe McAuliffe and freshman Abigail Mercaldo managed to each get a shot on goal in the first half, both great opportunities for the Saints to get on the board in the first 45 minutes.
Westmark was quickly put back to work early in the second half, as CNU extended its lead to five with two quick goals in the second half. Westmark scooped up several shot before the Captains scored for the third time with 21 minutes remaining in the game. McAuliffe and junior Sarah Lloyd tred to find the back of the net with two shots on goal but were unsuccessful. The Saints would keep the Captains scoreless for the remainder of the game with Westmark recording 14 saves through her 90 minutes of play.
The Saints finished the season 4-13 overall. Seniors Erin Harris and Lexi Swartz completed their collegiate career on Wednesday evening having both scored a total of four goals during their four-year tenure.
The women will return to action in the fall of 2016.
