Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount (Va.) University women's soccer team hosted Capital Athletic Conference opponent, St. Mary's College of Maryland, falling on a 4-0 decision Saturday afternoon.
The first half of play was a close battle, with a heavy attack from both sides. Freshman Brooke Hillenbrand started out the game with one of Marymount's two shots on goal in the second minute of play.
Junior April Westmark made her second start of the season in the goal, playing the full 90 minutes as keeper. The Seahawks offensive pressure hit Westmark four times early, but she was able to stop all four attempts. The fifth opportunity for St. Mary's was the only ball to find the net in the first half. The lone goal of the half came off of a cross from Claire Kostelnik to the head of Caroline Rivera. Westmark made sure nothing else was getting past her, stopping two more shots before the half ended.
One of the best opportunities for the Saints to score came on a free kick by senior Erin Harris. Harris teed it up from five yards outside the box, narrowly missing the top of the goal. Junior Lyndsie Iwata added another shot in the 40th minute, but Seahawks goalkeeper Katie Flores was there for the save.
The Saints came out in the second half looking to close the deficit, but were not able to get any shots off. St. Mary's capitalized by adding three more goals to seal up a 4-0 victory.
The Saints will finish their season at home against CAC leader Christopher Newport University, who holds a tie for first place with St. Mary's at 7-1 for the season. The match will take place Wednesday, October 28, with first touch scheduled at 4 p.m.
