Box Score York, Pa. – The Marymount men's basketball team erupted for an incredible second half performance on Wednesday, eventually downing the Spartans 80-61 when all was said and done. The Saints remain atop CAC standings as they climb to 4-1 in league play and 10-2 overall.
While the first half proved quite the point-for-point battle, the second half saw Marymount double the Spartans' scoring efforts, 42-26. The Saints shot 52.9% (27-51) from the floor and 42.9% (6-14) from three point land on their way to the decisive conference victory. Marymount made good use of the charity stripe as well, posting a 71.4% (20-28) effort from the line.
Senior Jesse Konadu led all scorers with 20 points on the night, joining an elite club as he surpassed the 1,000-point mark and ended the evening with 1,006 career points to his name. Classmates Antonio Rouse and JC Hoellich added 14 and 12 points, respectively. The Saints narrowly out-rebounded the host, 35-31, with a variety of players snatching multiple rebounds.
The Saints closed the opening frame up by three, 38-35, but came out of the break with an obvious energy. Marymount exploded for a 16-4 run to cover the majority of the first ten minutes, jumping out to a daunting 55-42 advantage.
From there, the Spartans suspended the scoring campaign with several free throws, though the lead proved ultimately untarnished. The Marymount advantage yo-yoed between 13 and 15 points until the 5:26 mark, when Rick Narcisse kicked off another Saints' rally.
The Blue and White, already up 69-56, closed out the final five minutes with an 11-5 run – adding an exclamation point to an already impressive performance.
Marymount returns to action on Saturday as it hosts CAC counterpart Frostburg State. Tip time is slated for 4 p.m. in Arlington, Va.
