St. Mary's Hands Saints CAC Setback

Box Score

St. Mary's City, Md. – The Marymount men's basketball team suffered its second CAC loss of the season on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 78-62 decision at St. Mary's.  The Saints fall to 14-3 on the season and 8-2 in league play with the loss.

JC Hoellich paced the Saints' offense with a team-high 12 points, while Jesse Konadu and D'Ondre Stockman added ten apiece.

An 11-3 run from the Seahawks saw the host take a 20-11 lead with 6:29 to play in the first half.  Back-to-back layups from Dmitri Rucker cut the deficit to five, 20-15, just moment later, though the retort proved in vain.  St. Mary's countered quickly and was able to tow a 34-25 advantage into the break.

The Seahawks kicked off the second half in similar fashion, using a quick 7-1 burst to swipe a 55-41 lead by the 12:27 mark.

The double-digit gap persisted as the minutes ticked away – the Seahawks always ready with an answer for any Saints' attack.

Stockman, Hoellich, and Konadu converted consecutive layups to bring Marymount within 12 points, 68-56, with 4:06 on the clock.  Unfortunately, that was the closest the Saints would ever get down the stretch.

The Seahawks outshot the Saints across the board, using an impressive 29-point performance from Nick Laguerre to bolster the offensive attack.

Marymount returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Wesley in a midweek CAC showdown.  Tip time is slated for 8 p.m.
