Box Score Frederick, Md. – In what proved to be quite the turbulent tussle on Tuesday afternoon, Hood torpedoed the Saints with an impressive offensive outing, resulting in five unmatched goals. The loss sinks Marymount to 2-8 on the season.
The Blazers rolled out the heavy artillery just mere moments after kickoff, marching downfield and slamming home the game's first tally at the 2:19 mark.
Only seven short minutes later, Hood collected its second punch of the half. Drew Denich found the net after pouncing on a rebound and beating a Marymount defender.
Still reeling from the initial back-to-back blows, the Saints slowed down and reconfigured a bit. Ahmed Elmanialawy finally found some room to run, driving deep into Hood territory and unleashing a laser just over the crossbar. Though the striker came up empty-handed, the blast gave the Blue and White a little much-needed energy.
From there, the match seemed to even out a bit. Even though Hood maintained possession and continued to dance around the Saints backline, Marymount kept pressure on the ball and induced a 25-minute scoreless stretch.
The 35th minute, however, saw a third Blazer notch the team's third score, as Joseph Benton set up Colin Viti for a one-on-one chance against Saints keeper Logan Cropper.
Hood rode the 3-0 advantage into the break, but came out just as hungry in the second half.
Despite markedly better cohesion amidst the Saints, both offensively and defensively, the Blue and White just could not find the target.
Both second half goals came courtesy of Denich – who secured a hat trick with the pair – in the 59th and 65th minutes, respectively. The 5-0 deficit would plague Marymount for the remainder of the match.
Cropper suffers the decision after collecting seven saves between the pipes. The keeper falls to 2-8 on the year with the loss.
Marymount returns to action on Saturday when it travels to south-central Pennsylvania to face CAC rival York. The Saints and the Spartans are set to square off at 3 p.m
