Women's Lacrosse Falls in Season Opener

Box Score

Arlington, Va. – Marymount University's women's lacrosse team dropped its season opener 12-10 to visiting Marywood on Saturday evening. Three Saints notched hat-tricks in the loss.

Senior Katie Dean, junior Lindsay Quinn and sophomore Stephanie Flood all recorded three goals for Marymount (0-1). Freshman Chelsea Ritter added a goal and an assist while Quinn and freshman Rachel Duff also chimed in with assists.

Defensively, sophomore Lourdes Lanzas earned 15 saves in goal. Sophomore Cecilia Pasquale picked up three caused turnovers while Flood and freshmen Lindsay Bullock and Katie Rossomondo also recorded a pair of caused turnovers. Dean and Ritter paced the Saints with four ground balls each.

Marymount dominated the opening possessions, winning 17 of 24 draw controls in the game. Ritter and Flood split duties in the circle, winning eight and nine draw controls, respectively.

The Saints put the first score on the board at the 25:53 mark as Quinn notched her first goal with an assist from Ritter. Marywood (1-0) then responded with back-to-back free position goals by Kimberly Commisso before Flood evened the score at 2020 with a free position goal of her own.

Keeping things close the rest of the first half, the Pacers would retake the lead another two times only to see the Saints battle back and force a 5-5 tie going into halftime.

The second frame kept the pace of the high-octane first with Quinn again scoring the first goal of the stanza to give MU a 6-5 lead. Marywood would respond to knot the game at 6-6 before Ritter put the Saints up 7-6 courtesy of a nice pass from behind the net from Duff.

Marywood answered back with four consecutive goals over the next 10 minutes to put the game just out of reach for the Saints. Marymount managed to pull within one goal twice down the stretch but couldn't complete to comeback.
Diana D'Achille led the Pacers with six goals while Taylor McKeown added three and Commisso chipped in a pair.

Marymount returns to action on Wednesday, March 2, on the road at Notre Dame (Md.).
