ARLINGTON, Va. — Marymount controlled the pace and capitalized on key moments Wednesday evening at Long Bridge Park, defeating Neumann 13-9 to remain unbeaten in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Neumann struck first, but Marymount responded quickly as Ian Fructuoso ignited the offense with back-to-back goals to give the Saints an early edge. From there, Marymount settled in and closed the opening quarter with a 4-2 lead. The second quarter saw momentum swing briefly as Neumann evened the score at 4-4, but the Saints answered with a decisive run. Goals from James Elko, Santino Rossitto, and William Cate helped Marymount take a 7-4 advantage into halftime. Out of the break, Neumann pushed back with consecutive goals to cut the deficit to one, but Marymount once again responded. Fructuoso and Elko led a key stretch that rebuilt the lead, and a man-up goal late in the third gave the Saints a 10-6 cushion. In the fourth, Marymount stayed composed. The Saints extended their lead to as many as seven before closing out the 13-9 victory behind strong possession play and timely scoring.
