ARLINGTON, Va. -- Marymount flag football used a flurry of offense and stout defense to take down AEC opponent Chestnut Hill College twice on Thursday at Long Bridge Park.
With the wins, the Saints improve to 12-2 overall on the season, now 9-1 in the AEC.

Marymount initiated play with a strong offensive drive, highlighted by
Cara Vollmer's crucial 23-yard pass to
Dakotah Bright-Brubaker, setting the pace early in the quarter. The momentum continued as Vollmer connected with
Jesenia Velez for a 6-yard touchdown, followed by a successful extra point, putting the Saints ahead.
Defensively, the Saints capitalized on Chestnut Hill's missteps with
Sakairah Sterling intercepting a pass and returning it to the Chestnut Hill 30-yard line. Vollmer then showcased her precision with a 30-yard touchdown pass to
Kaylah Barr, extending the lead to 14-0. The quarter concluded with the Saints holding a commanding 14-0 advantage over Chestnut Hill.
The Saints capitalized on their strong offensive efforts in the second quarter, starting with
Cara Vollmer's 19-yard touchdown pass to
Samayah Barnes just 15 seconds in.
Brianna Lee followed with a successful rush attempt for the extra point. Vollmer continued to dominate by connecting with
Ryan Clarke for a 22-yard touchdown at the 10-minute mark. The Saints' defense held firm, and after an interception by
Sakairah Sterling, Vollmer added another touchdown pass to
Alexandria Veltri, extending the lead. Vollmer sealed the quarter with a 2-yard touchdown pass to
Naima Thomas, concluding with a rush that secured the extra point. The quarter ended with the Saints leading 40-0.
The Saints capitalized on a pivotal moment early in the third quarter when
Morgan Lester intercepted a pass from Raquelle Dandy and returned it six yards to the Chestnut Hill 18-yard line. This turnover led to a drive where
Cara Vollmer connected with
Naima Thomas for an 8-yard gain and followed up with an 8-yard rush to bring the Saints to the 2-yard line, although the drive concluded without further scoring.
Later,
Yariliz Torres flagged Raquelle Dandy in the end zone for a safety, extending the Saints' lead. The quarter ended with the Saints outscoring Chestnut Hill 9-0, closing the game with a comprehensive victory and a final score of 49-0.

The game opened with Chestnut Hill starting their drive at their own 14-yard line, but the Saints' defense, led by
Micaiah Pride, quickly halted their progress with a flag pull for a loss. Following a turnover on downs, Marymount took possession, and although
Brianna Lee's passing attempts initially faltered, the team soon found momentum.
Marymount's breakthrough came when
Jesenia Velez rushed for 9 yards, setting up
Cara Vollmer's pass to
Alexandria Veltri for a 6-yard touchdown, marking the first score of the game. The Saints maintained their defensive pressure, with
Victoria Johnson contributing key flag pulls to stifle Chestnut Hill's subsequent drive. By the end of the first quarter, Marymount led 6-0.
Marymount seized control at the start of the second quarter with
Jesenia Velez connecting with
Cara Vollmer for a 10-yard touchdown, immediately followed by a successful rush by
Kaylah Barr. Later, Velez showcased her versatility with a 36-yard rushing touchdown, further widening the lead. As the quarter drew to a close, Velez once again found the end zone, completing a pass to
Samayah Barnes for another score. The Saints finished the quarter leading 26-0, clearly dominating the quarter.
Marymount took control in the third quarter with a series of impactful plays.
Jesenia Velez connected with
Kaylah Barr for a 48-yard gain, setting up an 18-yard touchdown pass to
Alexandria Veltri at 12:00. Velez then successfully completed a pass attempt for extra points. Shortly after, Barr returned a 29-yard punt for a 44-yard touchdown, further extending the Saints' lead, with Velez again securing the extra points. Later, Velez completed a 15-yard touchdown pass to
Stephanie Braun at 04:00, and the subsequent extra point was good. Marymount finished the quarter ahead 47-0, securing a decisive win.
Marymount secured a significant momentum shift in the fourth quarter with
Jesenia Velez's 35-yard rush to Chestnut Hill's 10-yard line, setting up a scoring opportunity. Following this, Velez connected with
Morgan Lester for a 5-yard touchdown, extending the Saints' lead. The quarter also featured a pivotal interception by
Cara Vollmer, which halted Chestnut Hill's drive and allowed Marymount to maintain control.
The Saints' defensive efforts were underscored by
Isabella Silvestri and
Alexandria Veltri, who both made crucial flag pulls. Chestnut Hill struggled to gain ground, as evidenced by their limited yardage and turnovers. The game concluded with Marymount defeating Chestnut Hill 61-0, marking a definitive home victory.
