FLAG: Saints Stay Hot at Neumann

ASTON, Pa. -- Marymount flag football stayed hot in AEC action on Saturday at Neumann University, winning both games against the hosting Knights and Centenary University.

The Saints now sit at 16-2 overall on the season, 13-1 in the Atlantic East.

The game opened with the Saints initiating a drive that showcased their offensive efficiency. Cara Vollmer connected with Kaylah Barr for a 13-yard gain, setting the tone early. Later in the drive, Vollmer completed a critical 33-yard pass to Jesenia Velez, advancing to Neumann's 15-yard line. The Saints capitalized on this momentum when Vollmer rushed for a 10-yard touchdown, putting them ahead 6-0.

Marymount's defense also made a significant impact, with Samayah Barnes pulling the flag of Neumann's Ya'Nayshia Thomas, halting their progress. The first quarter concluded with the Saints holding a 6-0 lead, establishing their presence on both sides of the field.

They seized control early in the second quarter with an effective drive, as Vollmer connected with Velez for a 10-yard touchdown at 13:17, extending their lead. Later, Vollmer found Veltri for a 7-yard touchdown pass with 1:30 remaining, further solidifying their advantage. Their defense also made significant contributions, notably with Aaliyah Thrash and Victoria Johnson combining for a quarterback's flag pull for a loss that disrupted Neumann's momentum. The quarter concluded with the Saints leading 26-0.

The Saints capitalized on defensive opportunities in the third quarter, with Barnes intercepting an Ava Valente pass at the NUFF25 and returning it 17 yards to the NUFF8 at the 1:23 mark. Earlier in the quarter, a turnover occurred when Thrash fumbled and Valente recovered for Neumann, but it did not lead to a score. A successful pass attempt by Velez following a Neumann error put the Saints further ahead. The quarter concluded with the Saints leading 40-0, which was the final score of the game.

They opened the fourth quarter with a decisive momentum shift as Velez rushed for an 8-yard touchdown, followed by a successful rush attempt, increasing their lead. Midway through the quarter, the Saints' defense continued to stifle Neumann's efforts, with Barnes and Velez making key flag pulls. Despite Neumann's attempts to gain yardage, the Saints maintained control.

Marymount's offense capitalized on its opportunities, including a completed pass from Vollmer to Sakairah Sterling for crucial yardage, keeping the pressure on Neumann. The game concluded with the Saints securing a comprehensive 60-0 victory, affirming their dominance throughout the match.

Marymount began the first quarter with a defensive stand, highlighted by Ashley Ayala-Mata and Kaylah Barr each making crucial flag pulls to limit Centenary's initial progress. Following a series of exchanges, Dakotah Bright-Brubaker intercepted a pass, returning it 38 yards to set up the Saints in a strong field position at the Centenary 18-yard line. Samayah Barnes capitalized on this opportunity with an 18-yard rush for a touchdown at 00:20. Cara Vollmer followed with a successful pass attempt, extending the lead to 21-0 by the end of the first quarter.

The Saints' defense made a significant impact early in the second quarter when Samayah Barnes intercepted a pass from Kezia Feaster and returned it 16 yards for a touchdown at the 15:00 mark. Following this, Cara Vollmer's successful pass attempt added an extra point. Shortly after, another interception by Kaylah Barr set up an opportunity for Marymount, which Vollmer capitalized on by connecting with Jesenia Velez for a 17-yard touchdown pass at 10:42. Vollmer continued her efficient play, securing another point after touchdown. They maintained their momentum, extending their lead with a field goal. The quarter concluded with the Saints holding a commanding lead, 41-0.

Marymount seized the momentum early in the third quarter with Dakotah Bright-Brubaker's 8-yard rush, setting the stage for a scoring drive. Following a defensive stop, the possession culminated in Kaylah Barr's 8-yard touchdown run at 10:25, extending the Saints' lead. Later, Morgan Lester's interception halted Centenary's advance and allowed Isabella Silvestri to rush for a 21-yard touchdown, further solidifying the lead. The quarter concluded with the Saints leading 55-0.

The Saints delivered a decisive blow in the fourth quarter when Dakotah Bright-Brubaker connected with Sakairah Sterling for a 61-yard touchdown pass, swinging momentum firmly in the Saints' favor. Bright-Brubaker then successfully rushed for the conversion, extending the lead. Centenary (N.J.) failed to respond significantly, as its possessions were thwarted by Marymount's defensive efforts, including key flag pulls by Samayah Barnes. The game concluded with the Saints securing a commanding 61-6 victory.
