FREDERICK COUNTY, Md. -- Marymount flag football went 4-0 across the weekend after sweeping a pair of ECAC contests on Sunday over Sacred Heart and Mount St. Mary's (Md.).
The Saints now hold an 18-2 overall record on the year, now 8-1 in the ECAC.

The Saints opened the game with a strong offensive drive, starting at their own 14-yard line.
Jesenia Velez rushed for 14 yards to set the tone, followed by
Cara Vollmer connecting with Velez again for a 17-yard pass, bringing the Saints into Sacred Heart territory. The drive culminated in
Samayah Barnes completing a crucial pass from Vollmer, setting up the Saints' scoring opportunity.
Sacred Heart struggled to gain momentum, with
Victoria Johnson pulling Hailey Marucheau's flag for a loss. Barnes intercepted a pass, returning it 2 yards, allowing the Saints to maintain possession and control the pace. The Saints completed the first quarter ahead, 6-0.
The Saints started the second quarter strong with
Kaylah Barr rushing for a 5-yard touchdown at 13:38, extending their lead.
Cara Vollmer successfully completed the point-after attempt, further solidifying the Saints' advantage. Later in the quarter, Barnes intercepted a pass from Angelina Apice and returned it 21 yards for a touchdown, boosting the Saints' momentum. With less than a minute remaining, Vollmer connected with Barr for a 25-yard touchdown pass, followed by a successful point-after attempt. The quarter concluded with the Saints leading 31-0.
In the third quarter, the Saints' momentum surged with a 35-yard touchdown pass from Velez to Barnes at 11:12, followed by a successful conversion, extending their lead. Later,
Jaylah Thompson intercepted a pass at Sacred Heart's 35-yard line, returning it 14 yards, setting up another scoring opportunity. Velez capitalized on the turnover with an 11-yard rushing touchdown, although the following pass attempt for extra points was missed. The quarter ended with the Saints leading 45-0.
The Saints took control early in the fourth quarter with a decisive 52-yard rush by
Dakotah Bright-Brubaker, setting up a scoring opportunity.
Isabella Silvestri then advanced 13 yards, and Velez capped the drive with a 10-yard touchdown run, followed by a successful conversion, pushing the score to 58-0 with 10:40 remaining. Sacred Heart's subsequent drives were stymied by the Saints' defense, including crucial flag pulls by Barnes and
Alexandria Veltri, preventing any scoring opportunities. The game concluded with the Saints securing a commanding 58-0 victory.

Marymount began the first quarter by advancing through a series of short completions, with
Cara Vollmer connecting passes to
Kaylah Barr and Jessica Velez. Despite a setback with a fumble and a subsequent penalty,
Leslie Villegas executed a 34-yard punt to regain field position. A pivotal moment came when Vollmer completed a 36-yard pass to Velez, moving the Saints to the opponent's 3-yard line. This drive set the tone for the Saints, who ended the quarter with a 6-0 lead.
Marymount capitalized on a decisive drive midway through the second quarter, with Jessica Velez's 44-yard touchdown pass to
Kaylah Barr at 6:19, followed by a successful pass attempt by
Cara Vollmer, extending their lead. Despite several setbacks earlier in the quarter, including a loss of yardage on consecutive plays, the Saints maintained composure to secure points.
Mount St. Mary's responded with its own offensive efforts, but a strong defensive stand by Marymount, highlighted by Aaliyah Thrash's QB flag pull for a loss, stifled further advances. The quarter concluded with the Saints holding a narrow lead at 14-12.
Marymount's third quarter was marked by a critical 50-yard pass completion from
Cara Vollmer to Jessica Velez, advancing the team to Mount St. Mary's 9-yard line with just over a minute remaining. Earlier, Marymount faced defensive challenges, including a pass interference penalty and a holding penalty against
Yariliz Torres, which hindered their progress. Despite a valiant drive at the end, the Saints did not score in the quarter, closing the quarter trailing Mount St. Mary's 18-14.
Marymount's fourth quarter began with a critical defensive effort as
Kaylah Barr intercepted an Annabelle Haught pass at the Mount St. Mary's 39-yard line, returning it 4 yards to set up the Saints' drive. Jessica Velez capitalized on the turnover with a 13-yard rush to the Mount St. Mary's 22-yard line, followed by a 7-yard gain to advance the ball further. Despite this momentum, the Saints' subsequent plays were halted without additional yardage gained.
Later in the quarter,
Brianna Lee intercepted another pass from Jenna Dick at the Mount St. Mary's 1-yard line, but the Saints' offense was unable to convert the opportunity into points. The quarter concluded with the Saints maintaining their lead, winning the game 27-18.
