BASE: Saints Win Big on Senior Day

TYSONS, Va. -- Marymount (18-14, 9-6 AEC) won the final two games of their series against Gwynedd Mercy (16-15, 7-8 AEC) on Saturday on their Senior Day. 

Outscoring the Griffins 37-11 across the pair of games, the Saints look to carry the momentum down the stretch of the regular season.

The Saints secured a decisive victory over Gwynedd Mercy with a final score of 17-6. The home team's offense was potent from the start, with Quincy Via leading off the bottom of the first inning with a single and two stolen bases. Francis Swekosky doubled to bring Via home, and Evan Schick followed with a triple, scoring Swekosky. Additional runs were scored on a throwing error and a sacrifice fly by Joshmar Carbonell, bringing the score to 5-0 after the first inning.

In the second inning, the Saints extended their lead when Schick singled to center field, driving in Swekosky, who had previously walked and stolen second base. The score stood at 6-0 through two innings.

The Saints added another run in the third when Tyler Woodring hit a sacrifice fly, allowing Carbonell to score after he had singled and advanced to third on Via's single and stolen base. The inning concluded with a 7-0 lead.

The fourth inning saw an offensive surge for the Saints, scoring five runs. Schick doubled, and runs were driven in by Seth Sadler's bases-loaded walk and Carbonell's two-RBI double. Woodring's single brought in two more runs, putting the Saints ahead 12-0.

In the fifth, the Saints continued their dominance with three more runs. Schick walked and later scored on a single by Jack Kern. Carbonell walked with the bases loaded, bringing another run home, followed by Via's RBI single to close the inning with a 15-1 lead.

The sixth inning saw Gwynedd Mercy's most significant offensive output, scoring five runs, highlighted by a grand slam from Noah Waldron. However, the Saints responded with two runs of their own, with hits by Schick and Grebin, and an RBI hit-by-pitch by Thomas Orihuela, bringing the score to 17-6 through six innings.

Both teams were held scoreless in the seventh inning, finalizing the Saints' commanding 17-6 victory over Gwynedd Mercy.

The Saints took an early lead in the first inning when Quincy Via and Tyler Woodring both scored on sacrifices, putting the home team ahead 2-0.

In the second inning, the Saints added five more runs. Gray Ellenburg singled and eventually scored, followed by Joshmar Carbonell and Via crossing the plate after a single from Francis Swekosky. Woodring and Swekosky later scored on a sacrifice fly and a single, respectively. The Saints led 7-2 after two innings.

The Saints continued their offensive surge in the third inning. Seth Sadler scored on a single by Carbonell, and Carbonell later scored on a sacrifice fly by Woodring, extending the lead to 9-3.

The fourth inning saw the Saints explode for eight runs. Ellenburg and Carbonell each contributed with an RBI single and double, respectively. Swekosky then cleared the bases with a double, adding three more runs. Ryan Cuadros closed the inning with an RBI double, making it 17-3.

In the fifth inning, the Saints scored two additional runs. Sadler doubled and scored on an Ellenburg single. A pinch runner, Jay Vergel, also scored on a fly out by Connor Vick, increasing the lead to 19-5.

The Saints added one more run in the sixth inning when Kaleikaumaka Grebin scored on a single by Shane Howie.

The game concluded with Marymount securing a decisive 20-5 victory over Gwynedd Mercy.
