BASE: Saints Fall at #9 Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Saints (16-13) fell to #9 Bridgewater (27-6) with a final score of 10-5 on Tuesday. The Saints collected 11 hits, including five doubles, but could not overcome Bridgewater's six-run rally in the seventh inning.

The Saints started strong with Ryan Cuadros doubling to right center, followed by Evan Schick's RBI double down the left field line, allowing Cuadros to score. Bridgewater answered in the bottom of the first with Zack Chadwell's two-run homer, giving Bridgewater a 2-1 lead after one inning.

In the second inning, Seth Sadler walked and Joshmar Carbonell doubled to left center, bringing Sadler home. Carbonell then advanced to third on a sacrifice and scored on Tyler Woodring's single to left field, putting the Saints ahead 3-2.

Marymount extended its lead in the third inning. Cuadros doubled again, advanced on a sacrifice, and scored on Francis Swekosky's single through the left side, making it 4-2.

Bridgewater tied the game in the fourth inning after a two-run homer by Trent Holland, leveling the score at 4-4.

The game remained tied until the seventh inning when Quincy Via singled, stole second and third, and scored on a throwing error, giving Marymount a 5-4 lead. However, Bridgewater responded vigorously in the bottom of the seventh. A combination of a throwing error and key hits, including a two-RBI double by Zack Chadwell and another two-RBI double by Isaac Sumpter, resulted in six runs crossing the plate. Bridgewater led 10-5 through seven innings.

The Saints were unable to rally in the final innings, with Bridgewater maintaining its lead. The final score was Bridgewater 10, Marymount 5.

UP NEXT
  • Marymount will begin their three-game AEC series against Gwynedd Mercy this Friday on the road, with first pitch set for 3 PM.
  • The Griffins will come to Capital One Park the next day to wrap up the series in double header fashion starting at 12 PM.
