DAVENPORT, Fla. -- Marymount baseball got back in the win column on Monday, putting up an impressive offensive display in a doubleheader sweep over North Central University (Minn.).
The pair of wins put the Saints at a 7-4 overall record, as they head into the back half of their stint in Florida.
MARYMOUNT 18 - NORTH CENTRAL 6
- The Saints took a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, with Ryan Cuadros starting the scoring on an RBI double. Evan Schick and Gray Ellenburg added to the tally with RBI singles.
- North Central put up four in the bottom half of the opening inning to take the lead.
- Marymount bounced back in the top of the third with a five-run frame. Quincy Via, Tyler Woodring, Anthony Farmakides, Schick, and Cuadros each collected RBI's.
- They followed it up with a seven-run explosion in the next inning, highlighted by a two-run triple off the bat of Cuadros.
- MU put up three more runs in the top of the sixth to extend their lead. Francis Swekosky and Jack Kern each knocked RBI hits in the frame.
- Swekosky led the Saints with three hits in the opener, knocking in an RBI.
- Cuadros had two extra-base hits, knocking a double and a triple, driving in four RBI.
- Schick ended the game with three RBI to his credit.
- Ellenburg collected two RBI, going 1-for-1 with two walks on the day.
- Ben Smallwood earned the win on the mound, his first of the season, tossing 6.0 solid innings of work with eight strikeouts.Â
MARYMOUNTÂ 10 - NORTH CENTRAL 0
- After a pair of scoreless innings, the Saints took off in the bottom of the third. Cuadros knocked his second double of the day, driving in two runs, before Farmakides drove him in to put the Saints up 3-0.
- Via knocked an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth to extend the Marymount lead.
- The Saints put up a five spot in the bottom of the fifth, highlighted by RBI hits from Swekosky and Ellenburg.
- Tyler Woodring finished up the scoring for the day with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning.
- Via and Woodring each had three hits in game two, both collecting a double and Via adding a triple. Via stole a pair of bags to add to his line.
- Swekosky and Joshmar Carbonell each had two hits for the Saints.
- Liam Progulske picked up his first win of the season, going 6.0 innings on the bump with nine strikeouts, allowing just one hit.
- Bennett Zipple closed out the affair with a scoreless inning out of the bullpen, striking out one.
UP NEXT
- Marymount will take a day off before getting back on the diamond in the Sunshine State.
- They will take on Ohio Northern University Wednesday, with first pitch set for 1:15 PM.
