ARLINGTON, Va. -- Marymount baseball headed back to their old turf, playing a pair against Lycoming College at Bishop O'Connell High School, the home field for the Saints in its early year.
Dropping a pitchers' dual in the opening contest, the Saints battled back in game two to earn a walk off win and move to 2-2 on the young season.
LYCOMING 1 - MARYMOUNT 0Â
- Anthony Farmakides and Evan Schick each knocked a pair of hits in the first game of the day, with Schick adding a double.Â
- Jay Wandell tossed 5.0 strong innings on the mound, allowing just one earned run while striking out three.Â
- Gavin Elliot put up 2.0 innings of scoreless relief, allowing just one hit.Â
MARYMOUNT 9 - LYCOMING 0
- After four scoreless frames, with both pitchers settling in well on the mound, Lycoming came through with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth. The Saints went on to cut the lead in half with a sacrifice fly from Joshmar Carbonell, scoring Tyler Woodring who doubled to lead off the frame.Â
- The Saints took the lead in the bottom of the sixth with the help of a two-run double off the bat of Gray Ellenburg. Woodring pushed across another run to give Marymount a two-run cushion.Â
- After the Warriors evened up the tally in the top of the seventh, Schick knocked an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to retake the lead.Â
- Marymount jumped ahead 8-to-5 in the bottom of the eighth, highlighted by an RBI single from Ryan Cuadros.
- The Warriors tied it up in the top of the ninth, forcing the Saints to head to the plate with a chance to walk it off.Â
- William Alvarez came through, working the bases loaded walk to push the winning run across the plate and send the Saints home with a win.
- Farmakides went 2-for-4 with a double , with Schick adding two hits and an RBI.
- Joshmar Carbonell, Ellenburg, and Woodring each added doubles in the win.Â
- Ellenburg led the Saints with two RBI.Â
- Liam Progulske racked up five strikeouts in his start, with Chase Allen punching out three.Â
- Ketz Murray earned the win on the mound.Â
UP NEXT
- With tomorrow's rubber match cancelled due to forecasted weather, the Saints will next take on Hampden-Sydney College in double header fashion next Saturday, Feb. 28 at 3 PM.
