TYSONS, Va. -- Marymount baseball picked up a double header sweep over the Hampden-Sydney College Tigers on Saturday afternoon at home, walking in game two.
With the wins, the Saints improve their overall record to 4-2 on the season.Â
MARYMOUNT 9 - HAMPDEN-SYDNEYÂ 8
- After falling into a 4-0 hole, the Saints began battling back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third. Joshmar Carbonell knocked a sacrifice fly, scoring Seth Sadler who singled to leadoff the frame. A successful double steal scored the second run of the inning to cut the deficit in half.
- Carbonell punched an RBI single to left field in the bottom of the fifth to inch closer.
- Marymount exploded for six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, highlighted by a two-run triple off the bat of Anthony Farmakides, to take the lead into the top of the seventh.
- The visiting Tigers threatened in the top of the seventh, but Michael Arce secured the save to give the Saints the win.
- Carbonell went 2-3 at the plate in game one with four total RBI.
- Farmakied knocked a triple for the lone extra-base hit for the Saints.
- Ryan Cuadros, Seth Sadler, Gray Ellenburg, and Tyler Woodring each added hits.
- Ketz Murray earned his second win on the mound, going 3.0 innings of relief with five strikeouts.
- Arce earned his first save of the season in the win.
MARYMOUNT 8 - HAMPDEN-SYDNEYÂ 7
- The Saints jumped to a 4-0 lead with a pair of runs in both the first and second innings, highlighted by RBI hits from Farmakides and Schick.
- With the Tigers jumping ahead in the top of the fourth, the Saints answered right back with three runs in the bottom of the inning via RBIs from Cuadros, Farmakides, and Schick.
- H-SC evened up the tally in the top of the ninth, and with the Saints going quietly in the bottom of the inning, the game continued into extras.
- It didn't take long, as Carbonell knocked an RBI single in the bottom of the 10th, scoring Woodring who singled to open the frame, sending the Marymount faithful into hysterics under the lights.
- Cuadros went 3-for-5 in the nightcap, knocking a triple with an RBI.
- Schick had two hits with a double and two RBI.
- Quincy Via had two hits out of the leadoff spot with an RBI, adding two stolen bags.
- Woodring had a hit and three stolen bases.
- Sadler and Ellenburg each added hits.
- Chase Allen earned the win on the mound, tossing 4.0 strong innings with five strikeouts.
- Liam Progulske had eight strikeouts in his start.
- Owen Mead tossed a scoreless inning in relief.
- Graham Jones had three strikeouts in 1.1 innings of work.
UP NEXT
- The Saints will hit the diamond again tomorrow, heading to neighboring Catholic for a Pope's Cup match up at 2:30 PM.
- They will be back at Capital One Park on Tuesday, facing off against St. Mary's (Md.) at 6 PM.
