READING, Pa. — Marymount women's lacrosse opened the 2026 season in commanding fashion on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Alvernia, 14-4, behind a balanced offensive attack and strong defensive play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
After conceding the first goal, the Saints quickly took control, scoring four unanswered goals to close the opening quarter with a 4-1 lead. Marymount continued to build momentum in the second, capitalizing on free-position and man-up opportunities to extend the advantage to 8-3 at halftime.

The Saints maintained pressure throughout the second half, outscoring the Golden Wolves 6-1 over the final two quarters. A steady defensive effort limited Alvernia to just three shots in the fourth quarter while Marymount closed the game with four goals to seal the 14-4 victory. 

NOTABLE

• Carmella Garcia led the Saints with a hat trick and two assists for five points. 
• Mackenzie Morrissette recorded six points on two goals and four assists.
• Jillian Blair, Kaylee Heath, and Tess Valentino each added two goals apiece. 
• Adrina Cantarelli, Kate Holley, and Natalia Ortiz each found the back of the net. 
• Goalkeeper Ava Vautour earned the win with six saves in 60 minutes. 
• Marymount controlled the ground game, winning 27 ground balls to Alvernia's 15.

UP NEXT
Marymount returns home this Saturday for its home opener against Southern Virginia. Opening draw is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
