MLAX: Saints Roll Past Methodist

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Marymount men's lacrosse earned a decisive 14-5 victory over Methodist on Sunday afternoon at Monarch Stadium, improving to 1-1 on the season. A balanced offensive attack and strong defensive play powered the Saints to their first road win of the year. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
Marymount set the tone early, scoring four unanswered goals in the first quarter to build a quick cushion. Methodist responded with two late goals in the period and briefly cut the deficit to one in the second quarter, but the Saints answered with a 3-0 run to regain control.

The Saints maintained momentum through the second half, outscoring the Monarchs 7-2 over the final two quarters. A dominant fourth quarter, highlighted by five Marymount goals, sealed the victory and showcased the team's depth and offensive efficiency. 

NOTABLE

  • Santino Rossitto led all scorers with five goals and an assist. 
  • Ian Fructuoso added four goals, including a man-up score in the fourth quarter. 
  • James Doss recorded two goals, while Braden Miller, Matthew Kurczeski, and James Elko each added one. 
  • Drew Bedard dished out two assists to pace the playmaking effort.
  • Goalkeeper Jacob Brooks made 12 saves to anchor the Saints' defense. 
  • Matthew Mulkins and Isaac Armlin were a key presence defensively, causing turnovers and helping the Saints win ground balls with Mulkins picking up 4 and Armlin picking up 5. 
  • Winston Horshaw II dominated at the faceoff X, winning 11 of 13 draws (84.6%) and collecting a game-high 10 ground balls to give Marymount consistent possession.
  • Marymount held advantages in shots (42-25), ground balls (36-24), and faceoffs (15-6).

UP NEXT
Marymount returns home for its home opener on Saturday, hosting Bridgewater at 12 PM as the Saints look to build momentum in front of their home crowd.
