VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Marymount women's volleyball wrapped up their stint in the 757 with a tight loss to Plymouth State, dropping the match in five sets.
The Saints finish off the weekend with a 1-2 record, playing well throughout the two days.Â
NOTABLE
- Elizabeth Stackpole knocked a career-high 13 kills, knocking at a .290 percentage, with two block assists for 14.0 points.
- Hailey LaBonte racked up 16.0 points to finish off her impressive first weekend, powering 11 kills alongside 18 digs, four aces, and a pair of block assists.
- Johanna Modica had eight kills with five blocks and eight digs, good for 12.5 points.
- Sabrina Schoeberlein had eight kills and 14 digs, adding a trio of aces.
- Ava Humphries notched a career-high 34 digs, adding three aces.
- Emerson Aber racked up 23 assists, with Jessica Rothermel adding 17.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Plymouth State came out swinging in the first set, going on an 8-1 run to open the match.
- The Saints tightened the deficit to six with a three-point run, but Plymouth State continued to maintain the upper hand to take set one.
- Marymount opened the second set on a 4-1 point run, taking advantage of key mistakes from the Panthers.
- A four-point run, started off with a kill off the hand of Stackpole, gave Marymount a 13-7 lead.
- The Saints held onto the lead down the stretch to even up sets.
- Set three proved to be a tight one, as the Panther took it by just two points. Marymount hit at a .214 clip in the third set, but the Panthers managed to take it away.
- A back-and-forth affair defined set four, with the two teams locked at 7-7 in the early going.
- Down 14-12, a 6-2 run from the Saints, highlighted by kills from Modica and LaBonte, put Marymount on top 18-16.
- Marymount were staring at match point from the Panther, but they battled back to take set four and force the decisive fifth set.
- The Saints opened the fifth set with 5-2 run to take the early lead.
- With Marymount trying to hold onto their lead, the Panthers put together a run in the middle of the set, scoring five-straight to take a 12-8 lead.
- Plymouth State took the advantage down the stretch to take the thrilling five-setter.
